working group 6
Fault tolerance for medical devices
WG Chair: Hans Manhaeve (Ridgetop Europe – Belgium)
WG Vice Chair: Christos Strydis (Neurasmus – Netherlands)
The objectives of Work Group 6 are:
- High Safety systems (Life saving devices)
Life saving devices such as, for example, implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, Holter heartbeat monitors, and glucose level monitors require high levels of reliability. This part of the working group will focus on the assessment of fault mechanisms affecting life saving devices and on possible fault tolerant design techniques. - High reliable/Low power systems for wearable sensors
The need for energy saving in digital system is pervasive, and the interaction with reliable design will increase in the next years. One of the fields in which such interaction must be taken into account yet is the one of medical applications, such as portable medical devices or wearable health sensors. The interaction between the reliable and low-power requirements for these systems will be taken into account by this WG, which will also try to extend the achieved result to more general application scenarios.
